The Social Side of Dementia Risk
Learn from prominent researcher from the Centre of Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) about how social & environmental factors shape dementia risk
Celebrate with Newtown Neighbourhood Centre this Seniors Festival.
As part of Silver Connections Seniors Festival, the Connect and Learn session invites you to connect with others over morning tea and hear about the latest research on factors that influence dementia risk and overall health and wellbeing in later life.
Guest speaker:
Annabel Matison - Postdoctoral Research Fellow
CHeBA (Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing), School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW Medicine & Health
Annabel’s research explores the interplay between social determinants of health and ageing, with a focus on dementia. She completed her PhD at UNSW in 2024, where her dissertation investigated the connections between nutrition, genetics, and depression in older adults using data from several large international consortia. Annabel also holds a Master of Human Nutrition from Deakin University. Her work uses international datasets to reveal how social determinants influence dementia risk and healthy ageing, aiming to guide better interventions and policies to improve health outcomes for older adults.
The Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) is a premier research institution at UNSW Sydney, investigating brain ageing and dementia. CheBA's vision is to achieve, through research, healthier brain ageing and better clinical care of age-related brain diseases.
Nutritious morning tea will be provided, supported by Inner West Council.
