Join us for an engaging and informative session hosted by City of Melville EcoHub to deepen your understanding of the science of climate change and learn more about build resilient communities.This presentation will focus on the latest science of climate change - what we know and don't know - what we are seeing and how we understand what the future may hold.This will include global trends, local impacts, extreme hazard risks, tipping points, attribution and answers to any questions you may have and show where to find reliable sources of information.The session will also explore practical strategies for strengthening community resilience in the face of increasing climate-related challenges.This event is ideal for adult learners, community leaders, educators, policy-makers, and anyone interested in how science and local action can come together to address one of the most pressing issues of our time.Let’s work together to understand the science and take action for a more resilient future.About the presentersJoe Courtney has been a meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology for 37 years. His specialty is forecasting tropical cyclones and is well known in international circles as a training specialist and his work with the UN. He has a personal and professional interest to interpret and explain the latest thinking on the climate science.Shani Graham is a well-known sustainability advocate in Perth, with a background in teaching and educational leadership. Her initiatives—including The Painted Fish eco-accommodation and the Hulbert Street Sustainable Fiesta—have inspired communities to embrace resilience and environmental responsibility. She is the co-founder of Ecoburbia, an innovative urban infill project that blends communal living, sustainability, and social connection.Her TEDxPerth talk explored how knowing your neighbours can create resilience in times of crisis—a message she continues to champion through her community work. Shani’s recent focus is on strengthening neighbourhoods through the Neighbourhood Acceleration Program, where she works as a course facilitator. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left.
