Event Details

Neighbourhood Central's Parkes Palliative Care Volunteer Service invites volunteers, managers of volunteers and other people involved in palliative care, to connect with their peers and engage in some valuable professional development.

The Palliative Care Umbrella: Where Are You? seminar will include guest speakers Beate Steller and Lita Mathews. Beate specialises in grief and loss education and counselling and Lita is a palliative care social worker.

The day provides an opportunity for you to take time out to reflect on the important work you do as a volunteer or palliative care worker, on how to be able to stay connected and supported. Being with clients on the End of Life journey and aiming to provide social support means giving of ourselves. This ‘self’ also needs attention as this work can affect us on all levels of our lives.

The day will be interactive and will engage you in practical activities that help you to reflect and grow in your role. We will explore the challenges that lead us to compassion fatigue and how to move from this fatigue and vicarious trauma to strengthening and growth. You will have an opportunity to develop actions for a self-care plan and practice self-compassion. It will help you clarify where you stand under the Umbrella of Palliative Care volunteering and how to get the best support and shelter.
