Event Details

Our monthly taste of talent from the files of two Brisbane music fans and avid supporters of local live music, Bill and Mark.

This month we feature Dana Gehrman and Danny Widdicombe.

Tickets $10 online and $15 at the door.

Brisbane based guitar slinger and singer Dana Gehrman has just had the sort of year that most musicians can only dream about. Sharing the stage with the legendary Tim Rogers, toured in support of 3-time ARIA nominated alt country stalwarts The Wilson Pickers, graced the stage of numerous festivals and hit the studio to record her much anticipated debut LP to be released in 2018.

Armed with her old Fender telecaster and matching Fender amps, Dana takes no prisoners on stage while she brings her 70’s ‘West Coast’ inspired songs to life with more panache and vitality than most rock n roll men could even dream of. We’re talking foot on the fold back, amps up loud and attitude to match.

“Brisbane’s best kept secret.” – The Zoo, 2016

“A beautiful set… bluesy, folk drawl and slick guitar playing.” – Blank Gold Coast, 2016.

“Remember the name Dana Gehrman, kids.” – Rabbit Radio, 2016.

“Dana displays a sheer love for musical creation…her skill with a six-string cannot be ignored” – CreativeDrinks, 2014.

Danny Widdicombe is part virtuoso guitarist, musical director, songwriter, singer and story teller. He is based in Brisbane, Queensland and is best known for his folk / country / blues stylings but he’s also heavily influenced by jazz, indian, bossa nova, classical and anything else you can find in his
meticulously alphabetised record collection.

Danny has released three albums as a solo artist, another three with his band The Wilson Pickers and has appeared on a myriad of albums playing as a session musician. All three of The Wilson Pickers albums have received the much sought after accolade of being nominated for ARIA Awards as well as a Golden Guitar nomination in 2017 for their latest release. Danny has also won the prestigious GW McLennan Memorial Fellowship and a Queensland Music Award.

In 2015 Danny celebrated his 20 year anniversary of living with leukaemia which has been his nemesis since the tender age of 19. Managing to balance treatment and its side effects and continue a career in music as well as raise two children has given Danny both an enormous sense of compassion but also the determination to pursue his evolving craft of writing, creating and
performing music.

Performing as a solo artist, Danny is a finger style guitarist in the vein of Chet Atkins and sings his songs passionately and with sincerity. His Brisbane based band The HoneySliders are known around the country as one of the tightest and most proficient musical units playing in Australia.

As a session musician, Danny has played lead guitar for such luminaries as Bernard Fanning and Tim Rogers and shared the stage with Troy Cassar-Daley, Jeff Lang, Shane Nicholson and many others. In the studio Danny has added the pedal steel to his list of stringed instruments and he hasalso composed music for television and film.

Danny’s last solo album Find Some was recorded in the radiation suite at the Royal Brisbane Hospital while he was receiving chemotherapy. His extensive network of musical friends rallied around to help make the album and it became a critically acclaimed release, further enhancing Danny’s reputation as a truly important figure in the Australian musical landscape.
