The Mocidade Bateria Sound - Drum Workshop with Rob Mair
Part of the Melbourne Samba Encontro - This workshop will focus on the musicality of the bateria of Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel
The bateria of Mocidade has a distinct sound. With different tuning of the surdos, a classic caixa pattern, and some distinctive characteristics for the tamborims, you will learn what sets the bateria of Mocidade apart from other schools and why it has such a loyal fan base.
We will spend time exploring the key techniques for surdo, caixa, repique, tamborim and chocalho.
Rob Mair has 25 years experience of playing and studying samba in the UK, Brazil and Aotearoa New Zealand. He was a bateria director with the London School of Samba from 2003-2006 and a bateria director with Paraiso School of Samba, also in London, from 2007-2013.
He has played with numerous groups in the UK and across Europe including Sambatuc, Bloco X and Verde Vai. In Brasil, Rob has studied and played with numerous escolas de samba in Rio de Janeiro. He specialises in teaching sound dynamics, technique and swing.
