The Law of Commerce in the 21st Century: Transnational Commercial Justice Amidst the Wax and Wane of Globalisation
About this event
The University of Western Australia Law School and the Supreme Court of Western Australia are delighted to invite you to attend an address by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore
Through an intricate web of commercial laws and rules for the resolution of commercial disputes, the law provides the currency of trust that underwrites international commerce and supports the process of globalisation. The meaningful convergence and harmonisation of these laws is slowly beginning to take the shape of a transnational system of commercial justice. Recent events have, however, raised pressing questions over the very future of globalisation and the rules-based international order. In this speech, Chief Justice Menon will consider the prognosis for globalisation, examine the development of the transnational system of commercial justice, and set out his vision for the future of international commercial law.
