Event description

Description

Join landscape architect Thomas Woltz and writer Georgina Reid in an intimate conversation about the power of story as a design tool and agent of change. How can we tell the stories of a place with reverence and respect? How can stories help us make landscapes that mean something - connecting us more deeply with both ourselves and the soil beneath our feet? Can stories inspire us to care, more?

Through their respective work outputs, both Thomas and Georgina harness the power of story to amplify the unseen. In this conversation they’ll dig through the undergrowth of their own narratives - sharing insights into their creative practices, current work and future visions.

ABOUT THOMAS

Thomas Woltz is the Principal and Owner of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, a 45-person firm with offices in Charlottesville Virginia, New York City, and Houston Texas within the United States, as well as a growing office in Melbourne. In 2013, Woltz was named the Design Innovator of the Year by the Wall Street Journal Magazine and in 2011, he was invested into the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows. During the past 20 years of practice, Woltz has forged a body of work that integrates the beauty and function of built form and craftsmanship with an understanding of complex biological systems and restoration ecology that has yielded thousands of acres of reconstructed wetlands, reforested land, native meadows, and flourishing wildlife habitat. His design work infuses places where people live, work, and play with narratives of the land that inspire stewardship. Many of these projects focus on restoration of damaged ecological infrastructure within working farmland and create models of biodiversity and sustainable agriculture.

ABOUT GEORGINA
