The Hahndorf Story including a Traditional Custodians Perspective

Celebrate the wonders of this land Ivan Copley, Elder of the Peramangk and Kaurna people and me, Sharon Pippos, local resident and owner/operator of Hahndorf Walking Tours.

On your arrival you will be offered a cup of lemon myrtle tea. Please bring a keeper cup for your personal use.

Ivan will provide a Welcome to Country and a background history to the aboriginal people of this area. This will be followed by an overview of the relationship with the first European settlers in Hahndorf – one of the few good new stories.

This experience is out on the property of Sir Hans Heysen ‘The Cedars’. Heysen purchased 60 hectares by 1938 to protect the magnificent gum trees on, and surrounding, his property. It is the best location close to Hahndorf to show the area in its most original state.

An authentic glimpse of the relationship between the traditional custodians and the gum trees, hunting and gathering and the laws of the Land.

On this property there are trees over 600 years old and Heysen was the first Australian painter to focus on eucalyptus trees in their true light and form usually painting trees on his own property. Tour duration 90-120 mins.

A demonstration of aboriginal artifacts will be provided at the conclusion of the tour.

No refunds available for this tour. If you cannot attend gift it to someone. What a great surprise.

Please note: The path is not formed and there is an incline at the beginning of the tour which precludes anyone with a wheelchair, walker or mobility concerns.

Tour does not include access to Heysen house or studio but entrance can be paid independently at the office to further your experience. You do have full day access to the property itself. You may like to stay have a picnic!
