Interventions, Australia’s only independent, not-for-profit radical book publisher, launches two new books on the Australian worker’s movement. Together they chart two pivotal periods in Australian trade union history.

Without Bosses: Radical Australian Trade Unionism in the 1970s by Sam Oldham gives a fascinating insight into radical currents in the period from the mass strikes against the penal powers to the green bans of the BLF. Without Bosses overflows with incredible and inspiring stories from a high point in trade union struggle.

Stuff the Accord! Pay Up! Workers’ resistance to the ALP-ACTU Accord by Liz Ross outlines how workers fought back against the attacks on their wages and conditions, their jobs, their unions and their rights. The Accord pitched worker against worker, destroyed two unions, oversaw one of the greatest transfers of wealth from workers to employers and gutted union membership and the gains of previous decades. This story of resistance, from the left and workers’ point of view, has not been told in full before.

MC for the launch will be labour historian Alexis Vassiley from Perth. Alexis is currently writing a PhD on the Robe River dispute of 1986.
