About this sacred program
“That which you pay attention to, you worship.” Devīmāhātmyam
Do you feel called to dive deeper into the practice of yoga? To be immersed in yoga's spiritual roots? Looking for deeper wisdom to understand the tantric Goddess tradition? Want to contemplate how this wisdom can help you to navigate modern life?
Katie Durgā is excited to offer wisdom from her own lineage and tradition in a return of her beloved Goddess Series!
The Goddess Series: The Navadurgā - the Nine Sacred Forms of Durgā offers a whole weekend of wisdom during the auspicious time of Caitra Navarātri - sacred stories, beautiful practices and community.
Over the weekend, we will:
- Refresh your understanding of the traditional perspective of what yoga is – both the state of yoga and the practice of yoga.
- Provide an overview of the context of the tantric Goddess tradition on the yogic path, including hearing Katie Durgā's personal journey with Durgā.
- Understand the great Śaktī - Durgā Mā - as a Goddess and how She can help you navigate life. This will include an awareness of Her scripture - the Devīmāhātmya and Her festival, Navarātri.
- Explore each of the Navadurgā - the nine sacred forms of Durgā. We can invoke different Divine Feminine archetypes on our individual paths to help us manage householder life and to support our evolution and growth. When we explore these archetypes for the Navadurgā, we will discuss the specific energy and qualities each Goddess represents, reflecting on the name of each Goddess, and unpacking Her form and weapons. We will discuss how She connects to your energy body (cakras), immerse in HerStory, Her qualities and wisdom. As we do this we will be contemplating how She can support us in modern life. We will also cover how to embody Her through rituals, practices and how you live your life.
- Enjoy some deeply feminine practices of breathwork, kriyas, mantra and meditation, allowing us to integrate the wisdom in our beings.
- You will also receive a sacred gift to help you continue your sadhana at home.
This course is open to everyone – teachers and practitioners who have an interest in learning more about ancient wisdom, the Goddess tradition and yoga philosophy. Remember that the wisdom will meet you where you are at. If you are drawn to this course – follow that intuition – it is arising for a reason!
I share this from my heart to yours - as a devotee of Durgā, and as someone whose life was transformed by Her grace. It’s not “my wisdom” – it is timeless wisdom. Come and explore this with me.

Feedback from previous participants of Katie's philosophy and history programs
Wow. Just wow. Katie’s decades of experience and immersion in yoga philosophy are generously shared in this absolutely unique course. With deep dives into the major texts and lineages plus overviews of how the rich tapestry of yoga is woven into modern yoga, this course is what you always knew was missing from your yoga training. M
Thank you, Katie, for introducing me to the beautiful teachings of yoga. It has had an enormous impact on my life. You have such a gift. I am so grateful for your teachings and how it has changed my life. J
The teachings in The Illumination Path helped to put a lot in perspective for me, both as a practitioner and a teacher of yoga. It can feel daunting trying to unravel how the various pieces of yoga tradition, history and wisdom sit alongside and inform each other, but Katie has delivered this in a way that was clear, practical and inspiring. She is truly embedded in yoga devotion and that comes across in her teaching as well - she is generous in supporting her students to integrate the wisdom. I would absolutely recommend The Illumination Path for yoga teachers who want to connect back to their inspiration, or non-teachers who find themselves falling in love with these practices and want to understand them from their roots. J
Katie gathers the threads and weaves the history, philosophy and practice of yoga into a garment that hugs and captures the magic of this timeless wisdom. A must for any seeker on the yogic path. M
Katie guides her students with skill, care and humour to ensure you come away with just what you need on your journey of self discovery. Thank you Katie. D
I cannot adequately put into words what this special course meant for me. It was a joy from beginning to end and Katie's wisdom, passion and absolute generosity in sharing all this is truly something. I know I have witnessed and been part of something special here, and its impact I will carry with me for the rest of my days. H
I loved every part of this training. Katie did a wonderful job of summarising the almost unfathomable history of Yoga Philosophy into an offering that was accessible, interesting and inspiring. I especially enjoyed the stories of the Gods and Goddesses and the sharing from Katie as to how to live fearlessly and to find your own Yoga pathway. This course is a must for all yoga teachers and for students who want to understand the ‘why’ behind the practice. J
If you are seeking richness in your life, feeling overloaded with information but hungry for wisdom, I highly recommend you dive into this course. Which will most likely meet you exactly where you are at. As always, Katie delivers with compassion and devotion, weaving ancient philosophy with practical ways to integrate this wisdom into your life. T
Thank you so very much. I’m so appreciative to you for sharing your beautiful life work. Learning about the philosophy of yoga was just beautiful I can’t decide my favourite parts this history, time lines, goddess leaning. For me I think learning about Dharma, values, my own pathway and my choices around this led to my own personal growth. Thank you so much this was so inspiring. K
This program was beautiful, transformational, and so insightful. All yoga teachers should do this course so they can understand what we are teaching and where it all comes from. I am really grateful for this incredible program you’ve created and all the wisdom. E.
Why train with Katie Durgā?
Katie is a long time spiritual yoga teacher – it is her passion – what she practices, what she teaches, what she lives. She stays true to the ancient traditions of yoga.
She is the founder of Durga Mindfulness - a Level 2 teacher with Yoga Australia and a E-RYT® 500, RYT® 500, YACEP® Teacher with Yoga Alliance, but first and foremost Katie is a yoga practitioner. A seeker on the spiritual path of yoga - known as a mumukṣu. Always learning. Always evolving. Always experiencing life and making sense of the wisdom. As an initiated Tantric practitioner in the Dakṣiṇāmūrti, Dattātreya and Ādi Śaṅkarācārya lineage, and a devotee of Durgā, Katie lives yoga. In an increasingly busy world, Katie love guiding people to find inner peace and clarity through divinely restful yoga practices, mantra, meditative prāṇāyāma and kriyā, meditation and wisdom from the ancient scriptures. She finds great joy in sharing yogic wisdom and restful practices to those who feel a connection with her.
Katie has well over 2,000 hours of training from some of the best teachers in the world. Her primary teachers and guides have been Kaya Mindlin based in the US, Sadhvi Abha Saraswati (Mataji) and Dr Indu Sharma at Parmarth Niketan Ashram in India, Anand Mehrotra based at Sattva Yoga Academy in India and Om Tirth based in India and the UK. Other influential teachers include Laura Ambika Amazzone, Indu Arora, Sarah Powers, Sharada Vaidika, Heather Agnew, Seth Powell and Raj Balkaran. She has also studied Āyurveda with Dr Claudia Welch and Dr Robert Svoboda. Over the years, Katie has contemplated their teachings and taken those teachings through her own life experiences including the pressures of senior leadership roles, regular India pilgrimages, sharing restful yoga practices, and her spiritual life - creating her own lived perspective of the wisdom. Yogic wisdom is a massive part of her life, but it was critical to supporting her healing recently through the experience of breast cancer. Since then, she has written a book and designed on on-demand program to help women walking this path. It was this experience that made Katie realise she wanted to more intentionally educate more people on the magic of this timeless wisdom. It is so needed in today’s world.

- Yoga is a beautiful ancient practice that brings many benefits. It is up to each individual to assess whether they are open to and ready for the program that they have chosen. This program includes discussion on concepts including karma, samsara and more as part of the history and philosophy of yoga. When we study history – there is an Etic perspective (an outsider perspective) and an Emic perspective (an insider perspective). As students, we are studying this tradition from an etic (outsider) perspective. What is important is that we stay respectful of emic (insider) perspectives. You don’t need to embrace all of these concepts personally. As we will say time and time again - take what resonates. Leave what doesn’t.
