The Glasgow Track via SkyHigh Mt Dandenong – Creative Hike
Are you ready to conquer the "vertical challenge" of the Dandenongs? Join us for the Glasgow Track Creative Hike.
Are you ready to conquer the "vertical challenge" of the Dandenongs? Join us for the Glasgow Track Creative Hike, a journey that combines physical endurance with the breathtaking natural beauty of Mount Dandenong.
This isn't just a walk in the woods—it’s a steep, rewarding ascent designed for those who love to push their limits and find inspiration at the summit.
The Experience
Our journey begins at the foot of the mountain in Kilsyth. We will tackle the Glasgow Track, a rugged, disused fire trail that heads straight up the western face. This path is famous for its steep incline and "straight up" philosophy—no zig-zags here!
As we climb, we’ll use the intersecting mountain tracks as natural "breather" points to take in the emerging views of Montrose and the distant Melbourne CBD.
The Highlight: SkyHigh Summit
Upon reaching the top, we will make our way to the iconic SkyHigh Mt Dandenong. Here, we’ll take a well-earned break to:
- Refuel: Enjoy a tea, coffee, or a snack at the cafe.
- Breathe: Take in the world-class, breathtaking views from the observatory.
- Reflect: Visit the historic Kyeema Memorial Marker, just a short walk from the trail's end.
Itinerary
- Meeting Point: Intersection of Glasgow Road & Sheffield Road, Kilsyth.
- - Note: If you need pick up from the CBD Melbourne, let us know.
- Leaving CBD at 9am (Meeting point at Melbourne City Baths)
- The Climb: 1–1.5 hours of steep uphill hiking.
- The Summit: Rest and refreshments at SkyHigh Observatory.
- The Return: A steady descent back via the same route.
What to Bring
- Sturdy Footwear: Hiking boots or high-grip trail shoes are essential (the track is rocky and can be slippery).
- Hydration: At least 1-2 litres of water.
- Weather Protection: A light jacket (it’s cooler at the top!) and sunscreen.
- A Creative Mindset: Bring a camera or a small journal to capture the views.
Technical Difficulty
Hard. This track is steep and requires a good level of fitness. We go at a steady pace, but please be prepared for a vertical workout!
