The Future Business Council's Next Boom Report (2018) argued that energy markets are experiencing their biggest transformation in a century, with dramatic implications for all of us. Advances in technology have slashed costs and reduced emissions. The democratisation of the energy sector is unwinding the monopoly structures on which our power distribution systems were founded. 'Prosumers' are facing 'Gentailers' in a contest of David-and-Goliath proportions to secure the right to produce and store energy. The move to many, multidirectional energy producing assets poses a challenge for regulators and Governments.
