About this Event

The Flowers of the Great War Collection

This culturally significant free gift to the nation has captured the music and songs from the trenches of WWI alongside two major contemporary works, the Gallipoli Symphony and the Diggers’ Requiem written by Australia's leading composers.

The collection comprises over 20 hours of recordings, plus the complete sheet music, videos and program notes. The collection also includes the complete recordings of F.S. Kelly, Australia's greatest cultural loss of WWI, who died on November 13, 1916, in the Somme. Born in Sydney in 1881, F.S Kelly's complete orchestral works were recorded by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, who are co-hosting this reception.

Join Christopher Latham, Director of the Flowers of War, together with the Consuls of the nations which supported the project, as well as composers, artists, dignitaries and representatives from NSW’s cultural institutions, to mark this significant cultural occasion. The majority of the collection is out of copyright and can be used freely without restriction.

This occasion will include a special preview concert that will showcase the newly recorded music of F.S. Kelly which include those which he premiered in Sydney in 1911.

We look forward to enjoying the pleasure of your company. Please consider arriving early to join us for champagne prior to the event from 6pm.
