About the Talk:
We are at a critical point in human history where there is a pressing need for a new development paradigm.  Over the last 20 years, the modern 'green' building movement has increased the capabilities of design and building professionals to conceive projects that reduce greenhouse gases, increase resource efficiency, and utilise more sustainable materials.   'Green' buildings and infrastructure, however, are simply not enough to address the ecological crisis we now face.  Even our 'greenest' buildings are only slowing global warming and still create significant negative externalities which are adding to our accrued ecological ‘debt’.
Underpinned by a powerful regenerative design approach and over three decades of applied practice, Bill Reed will discuss how every urban building and infrastructure project can act as acupuncture points for healing human-to-nature and human-to-human relationships, thereby demonstrating the latent potential of humanity’s ability to reverse climate change and produce ecological ‘dividends'.  Our role as urban practitioners in this process requires embracing not just ‘nature’, the ‘life around us’, and our social sphere, but also embracing the energy and evolutionary power that is integral to how we evolve and develop ourselves. 
Radical change is possible when we enlarge the scope of practice.

About The Speakers:
Bill Reed, AIA, LEED Fellow
Bill is an internationally recognized practitioner, teacher, and authority in integrative systems design, sustainability, and regenerative community planning and implementation. Bill is a principal in Regenesis  Group– an organization working to lift human activities into full integration and evolution with living systems. His work centres on creating and implementing a whole and living-systems engagement and design process; realizing exponential value to the qualities of life within projects, communities and their ecosystem.
An author of technical articles and contributor to many books on green design he is also a co-author of the seminal work, “Integrative Design Guide to Green Building.” He is a founding Board of Director of the US Green Building Council, a co-developer of the LEED Green Building Rating System, and is considered one of the leading thinkers and explorers in this field, Bill has consulted on over two hundred fifty green design commissions and regenerative development engagements. He frequently speaks at major planning, building, and design events as well as a guest lectures at universities throughout Europe and North America including Harvard, University of British Columbia, Universidad Iberoamericana, MIT, Princeton and UPenn.
 
Jason Twill, LEED Fellow
Appointed as an Innovation Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer within the Department of Design, Architecture and Building at the University Technology Sydney, Jason leads research into regenerative urbanism, housing affordability, and the sharing economy.
With a career spanning over 20 years in sustainable property development, Jason has been at the forefront of built environment transformation. His development experience includes delivery of sustainable mixed-income housing projects throughout New York City, execution of Vulcan Inc.'s South Lake Union Innovation District in Seattle, Washington and serving as Head of Sustainability for Lendlease Property, Australia.  
Jason is also Director of Urban Apostles Pty Ltd, a start-up real estate development and consulting services business specialising in alternative workplace &amp; housing models for cities. Its work focuses on the intersection of the sharing economy and art of city making.
He is a co-founder of both the International Living Future Institute and Green Sports Alliance and originator of the Economics of Change project.   Jason was named a 2015 and 2017 Next City Global Urban Vanguard and is an appointed Champion and advisor to Nightingale Housing in Australia.
