Event description
Why is Estonia one of the most advanced digital societies in the world?

About this event

Thirty years since Estonia secured its independence as a republic, it has become one of the world's leading digital socities. With almost all of its government services online, along with the introduction of artificial intelligence and seemless services, Estonia has built an efficient and effective digital ecosystem.

Join us at this public lecture to hear from the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia, Ms Kersti Eesmaa, who will discuss the key decisions and circumstances that led to Estonia’s success; building trust in digital services; and how Australia and the rest of world can learn from its trajectory.

About the presenter

Ambassador for the Republic of Estonia, Kersti Eesmaa

Ambassador Eesmaa received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Tartu and a Masters from the Estonian Business School, with Honours in Business Consultations. In 1996, she started working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia and over the years has served as the Director-General of two key portfolios – the Department for Human Resources and the Consular Department. Ambassador Eesmaa has been previously posted at the Estonian United Nations delegation in Geneva and the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the European Union in Brussels, where she was covering international trade issues during both postings. In August 2019, she became Estonia's Ambassador to Australia.

The restrictions and controls in place at this level include:

• regular personal hygiene, including washing hands and covering coughs

• social distancing – maintain a 1.5 metre distance from others

• shared spaces cleaned and disinfected regularly

• staying home if unwell.

Should the situation change, and COVID-19 community transmission is present across the ACT, wearing face coverings will be mandated on campus and activities may be hosted online only. We will keep you fully informed of any changes.
