In 2016 following their debut Australian Fashion Week show in May, the evolution of the brand comes in the form of a DI$COUNT UNIVER$E it's-too-soon-for-a-retrospective Retrospective Exhibition which will display over 65 mannequins and in excess of 500 garments from the DI$COUNT UNIVER$E archive. The way the exhibition is curated is basically the opposite of how an exhibition should be curated; it is “over curated” or overdone. Instead of selecting their best work, DI$COUNT UNIVER$E will show their WHOLE archive. Their signature DIY aesthetic translates across the entire exhibition from hand painted glitter mannequins to their hand written credits for the works, stuck to the floors and walls as well as their own ‘gift shop’ selling limited merchandise pieces.
The exhibition works will be presented in excess, a harmony of colourful chaos, crammed into the designers Collingwood studio gallery space to provide an onslaught of the DI$COUNT UNIVER$E world for their audience. The pieces collated for the ‘Retrospective’ exhibition have been sourced from their personal archives, private collections and from their Australian and international PR showrooms as well as borrowed back from celebrities. It will be the first time that the entire body of work from DI$COUNT UNIVER$E will be seen all in one place. The Retrospective includes many rare pieces that have been around the world and back; the You Will Never Own Me sequin dress as worn by Rihanna, the Pray t-shirt as photographed on Miley Cyrus by Terry Richardson, the DU studded biker jackets as worn by Madonna in her Bitch I’m Madonna film clip and Beyonce in her #lovewins Instagram video and the Classic Eye Bikini worn to Coachella by Kylie Jenner earlier this year.
