Event description

Description

It's been an incredible year of discoveries in science, with gravitational waves making headlines across the world, the announcement Australia would be getting a space agency closer to home, and Professor Jenny Graves taking out the 2017 Prime Minister’s Prize for Science. Join two of the top minds in science Dr Hannah Brown and Dr Sarah Keenihan as they dissect the best (and rest) of this year in science, medicine and technology.

Dr Hannah Brown is a researcher at the Robinson Research Institute and Centre for Nanoscale Biophotonics, at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Her research explores the mechanisms underlying how stress during early pregnancy alters the epigenome of the embryo, and causes detrimental, long-term outcomes. She gained her PhD from the University of Adelaide and took up international postdoctoral posts in both France (INRA) and the United States (Baylor College of Medicine). Her interests lay in the fields of epigenetics and metabolism, and in particular the changing epigenetic landscape of the early embryo. She is passionate about science communication and is currently a SA Young Tall Poppy.

Dr Sarah Keenihan is the Science + Technology editor at The Conversation. Sarah has a Bachelor of Medical Science with honours, a PhD and a Graduate Diploma in Sciences Communication, and established her writing business in early 2012 after 15 years working in immunology research and science communication in Australia and Indonesia.
