The Constellations #1 'The Heart' with George Khut & collaborators
Date and time
Description
In partnership with FBi Radio, DLUX Media Arts is launching a new program of discourse on art practices that operate at the intersections of science and technology.
'The Constellations' live conversations program will foreground collaboration in artistic projects that take on non-human intelligences, robotics, screen culture, virtual reality, new digital platforms, health and medicine, data, community and storytelling, as well as speculations on the future possibilities of art.
‘The Heart’ with artist George Khut & collaborators Angie Morrow and Katarina Ostojic.
In our first episode, 'The Heart', we take a look at The BrightHearts Research Project, developed by George Khut with researchers from Kids Rehab. This art and medicine collaboration investigates the application of George Khut’s heart-rate controlled artworks during medical procedures performed on children in hospital . The BrightHearts App is used as a biofeedback assisted relaxation-training tool to help manage the pain and anxiety experienced by children who undergo recurrent painful procedures, such as injections, Baclofen pump changes, central line changes, and lumbar punctures. Children using the BrightHearts App before and during anxiety provoking procedures are rewarded with sounds and visuals that respond to decreases in heart rate over different periods of time i.e. changes that they can influence with their breathing.
2018 Program curated by Bec Dean
