Systems thinking is often proposed as a better way of understanding the causes of public health problems and for thinking through the consequences and ramifications of interventions. But what will that require of our traditional and conventional ways of assessing the quality of research evidence? How will it transform the notion of evidence hierarchies? What will evaluation methods look like as we start to consider something beyond discrete interventions in the health sector? How will funding and management practices adapt?
US epidemiologist Professor Sandro Galea from Boston University is visiting Sydney and Melbourne as a guest of the Australian Prevention Partnership Centre in October. As part of his visit, he will be giving a public lecture on The Consequence of Systems Thinking in Public Health: New Ideas and Challenges.
