The Boro Bag ~ Part 1: Japanese Style Patchwork

The Boro Bag ~ Part 1: Japanese Style Patchwork

Revival GreenMargate, QLD
Friday, Apr 10, 2026 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am AEST
Overview

Learn Japanese-style patchwork with Boro layering and Sashiko stitching to create your own slow-stitched, textured bag.

In this slow and thoughtful workshop, we’ll explore the foundations of Japanese-inspired patchwork, drawing on traditional Boro and Sashiko techniques to begin creating your own beautifully layered bag.

Boro is rooted in mending and layering — honouring worn cloth by giving it new life. Sashiko adds strength and quiet decorative rhythm through simple, repeated hand stitches. Together, these techniques create texture, story, and structure.

You’ll be gently guided through fabric selection and layering, basic Sashiko stitch techniques, and how to begin constructing your patchwork panel. This is Part One ~ where we focus on building your stitched fabric and learning the foundations that will carry into completing your bag.

Expect slow repetition, visible stitching, textured layers, and mindful making. This is not fast sewing ~ it’s intentional, rhythmic handwork designed to feel grounding and satisfying.

Whether you're new to hand stitching or already love working with textiles, you’re warmly welcome. No prior experience needed ~ just a willingness to stitch slowly and embrace imperfection.
