Can I come on my own?

Yes absolutely!! Come along and meet like-minded book lovers for an afternoon of literary fun! Many people come to our The Book Club events on their own and are welcomed immediately.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a preloved book to swap. Please wrap the book and write why you loved it on the paper! Because who doesn't love a blind date with a book!

Is food and drink available?

The Risq bar venue is open with full food & bar menu available to purchase.

Do I have to read the book?

We understand that life often gets in the way of a good read. So please still come along and join in the fun on the day! Every Book Club will have more than one member that hasn't read the book.

Are you a book-lover looking for a monthly, daytime, social event? YES!

Join your hosts Emma and Clare for a lively lunchtime edition of our successful “The Book Club” event. This NEW daytime series is the perfect chance to connect with your local community and is proudly supported by City of Joondalup.

Our event is perfect for a midday outing or long lunch — open to everyone 18 to 108! If you enjoy reading and meeting new people, our daytime Book Club is a great opportunity for engaging conversation, laughter and new connections in central Joondalup. Come on your own or with friends and enjoy an afternoon themed around the Book of the Month.

📖 February’s Book Choice: The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden.

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of…
