Description

Managing Chronic Pain

One in five Australians, including children and adolescents, will experience chronic pain in their lifetime. Up to 80 per cent of people living with chronic pain are missing out on treatment that could improve their health and quality of life.

Chronic pain is defined as a pain that lasts beyond the time expected for healing following surgery, trauma or other conditions. It can also exist without a clear reason at all. Although chronic pain can be a symptom of other disease, it can also be a disease in its own right, characterised by changes within the central nervous system.

Hear from Mr David Edis, Spinal & Orthopaedic Surgeon on the vast gains to be made in the management of chronic pain through education, early intervention and access to pain management services. Mr Eric Torey, General Surgeon, will provide advice and tips on how mindfulness can assist in the co-management of pain.
