What are the NCAST parent Child Interaction Scales?
The NCAST Parent-Child Interaction (PCI) Teaching Scales are valid and reliable measures that allow professionals to assess parent and child interactions. The scales contain a well-developed set of observable behaviours that typically occur within the context of a teaching encounters between parent/ caregiver and child (0-3 years). The scales have items that assess caregiver sensitivity to the child, response to child's distress, and the type of social/ emotional and cognitive growth fostering activities caregivers provide. The NCAST PCI scales are unique as they observe the child's contribution to the relationship as well as caregiver's responsiveness. The provide objective data on the strengths and vulnerabilities which guides the development of strategies to provide treatment. The reliability and validity of the scales make them an exceptional choice for evaluating program outcomes.
The PCI Teaching scales are also widely used in research all over the world.
