The 3Rs in Animal Research
Learn about the ethical framework of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement, collectively called the 3Rs.
Animals are involved in research to help us understand our world, promote good health, advance medical solutions, support out pets and farming practices, and understand and protect the natural environment. Animals must only be involved in research if there are no alternative approaches, as few animals as possible are involved, and animal welfare is optimised. This ethical framework is captured by the principles of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement, collectively called the 3Rs. The principles of the 3Rs are embedded internationally in legislation and regulations on the use of animals in scientific procedures.
This seminar will explore the 3Rs so that participants increase their familiarity with this framework and how to apply it to research.
Facilitated by Dayna Johnson (Animal Welfare, Ethics and Integrity).
This session is for researchers who work with animals, and animal technicians. *Please note this is for Deakin University Researchers only.
