We are privileged to have Mr John Brogden AM as our guest speaker for the 2016 Men's Health Business Breakfast. John is the Chairman of Lifeline, Australia’s leading suicide prevention service and crisis line and is Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He is the former Member for Pittwater and Leader of the Opposition, NSW Parliament. John is Chairman and Patron for numerous organisations and community groups and holds a Master of Public Affairs.
This is not a fundraising event but rather one to raise awareness about the men’s health research and initiatives of the Centre. So why do we do what we do? Men have, on average, five fewer “healthy” years in their lifetime and do not live as long as women. They are more likely to commit suicide, die early after hip fracture, suffer injury and chronic health problems that lead to earlier exit from the workforce and impact on fatherhood and family, and engage with the health system in a different manner to women. We need to innovate in the way we deliver preventative health to reduce the prevalence of cancer and the three leading chronic diseases in men (diabetes, heart disease and depression), we need to optimise health services for men to encourage timely uptake, we need to deliver the next generation of drugs to reduce deaths from prostate cancer and ensure that men are receiving the necessary support to manage the side effects of treatment. But to do this, we need to be partnering with businesses and communities.
Please join us for breakfast in the Ian McLachlan room at the Adelaide Oval on the 7th of September. Going by our last Breakfast with the Hon Jeff Kennett AC, you won't be disappointed!
