Thanatos & Eros: Axis of Meaning & Aliveness
When grief is experienced, embodied and witnessed, life force renews. A two-day immersion into the grief–Eros axis.
Grief exists because something we love is no longer available. You do not grieve what you did not love, and you do not grieve what does not carry the potential to awaken you. Grief is the cost of loving. It is the cost of living fully. It is the cost of being human.
Thanatos is the force of ending. Eros is the force of life. They are not opposites, nor are they at war. They are inseparable forces in the same turning. You cannot have aliveness without mortality. You cannot have growth without loss. You cannot have awakening without rupture. Life and death move together. Meaning is born in their tension.
When grief is resisted - stuffed down, numbed, or left unwitnessed - the body contracts. Sensation narrows. Breath shortens. Our availability to life goes offline. Intimacy unsafe to lean into. Vitality wanes. The heart and body armour in order to survive, but in doing so, our armour also limits its capacity to feel joy and find meaning.
Yet when grief is allowed to be truly experienced and witnessed, something shifts. Breath deepens. Sensation returns. Life force begins to move again. The portal of what was once loved externally becomes a doorway to deeper meaning inside of you. We do not grieve to get rid of grief. We grieve to experience and integrate the love, to let it widen, deepen and expand us into greater meaning, purpose and aliveness.
The deeper the wound, the greater the gift - Eros returns.
The Immersion
Thanatos & Eros is a two-day embodied exploration of grief, shadow, ritual, community and vitality. This is not about getting over anything, it is structured, disciplined exploration of descent and conscious return.
Across the weekend, we work directly with the body, because grief lives there. Through embodiment practices, you will build interoceptive awareness and learn how to move what you feel rather than collapse beneath it. Through embodied shadow work, you will meet the parts of grief that are harder to own - resentment, numbness, anger, contraction - and integrate the gifts from what has been pushed aside. Through ritual writing and structured communal witnessing, you will give language, be witness and bare witness to what has been carried silently.
The work moves rhythmically between descent and aliveness, between contraction and expansion, between Thanatos & Eros. You will not be submerged in sorrow, nor rushed toward positivity. Instead, you will build the capacity to move between them, held in a trauma infomed and relational field to allow expansion of your emotional and relational capacity without overwhelming your nervous system.
By the end of the weekend, you will have experienced grief as movement rather than stagnation. You will have exolored how to reclaim access to vitality, creativity, and life force. You will have used the portal of loss to reconnect with meaning.
Who This Is For
This immersion is for those who feel strong on the outside but contracted inside. For those carrying greif that feels unspoken, unexpressed, unexperienced. For those who sense their vitality has dulled and want to feel more alive, intimate, and present in their own body.
This is not group therapy. It is a carefully facilitated, depth-based embodiment intensive rooted in mature practice and communal witnessing.
Structure
Day One: 8am - 4pm - is devoted to embodiment, descent and shadow. We build interoceptive awareness through nonlinear movement, explore grief in the body, and engage in shadow integration practices.
Day Two: 9am - 4pm - turns toward Eros and meaning. We work with oscillation between loss and aliveness, distill personal story, witnessing and being witnessed and an embodied ritual of integration and return.
