About this event

  • 5 hours

Students learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in students and other adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem, and the treatments and supports available.

Common mental health problems discussed in this course include depression, suicide, anxiety, panic attacks, eating disorders, psychosis and substance use. Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, students learn how to approach someone they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns.

Students also learn how to offer initial support and information and how to encourage the person to seek professional help or other supports.

This course is delivered in 2 parts: 1 x 5-7hour self-paced online learning component and 1 x 5hour face to face component. You will need to complete both components to complete the course and gain accreditation.

Please consider your wellbeing while booking this course, and let us know in advance if you have any concerns.

Upon completion of this course and a post-course quiz, participants will gain a 3 year accreditation as a Mental Health First Aider.
