Workshop for Teachers - EdTechSA invites teachers to join us!

Understanding the Digital Technologies subject through Student Experience

Friday July 22 - 9am - 1.00pm

Come along and find out about the Digital Technologies subjects, building students' computational thinking and capturing student evidence.

We will look at Version 9.0 in the Australian Curriculum (R-10) and ponder how to differentiate this engaging subject across year levels and abilities. No experience is required.

Sessions include:

- Computational Thinking

- Capturing Student Evidence

- Strategies for differentiation

- Get hands-on with Technologies unplugged & plugged

- ACARA Version 9.0 Digital Technologies - what has changed

- Stage 1 and 2 SACE teachers are invited to join for an information, moderation and networking session with Fiona Clayton

Educators attending the workshop do not have to be practicing teachers.

Optional – Educators attending this workshop are invited to pop in and observe the student workshops being held on Thu 21st July 9am-12:30pm at Naracoorte Primary School to see the Digital Technologies Subject in action. See how the EdTechSA committee members introduce students to hands-on Digital Technologies tools and lead them through problem-solving and creative stages of digital thinking. While these workshops are targeted at children, we are inviting educators to come along and learn side by side with the students in order to make connections between the adult workshop content and student experiences.

Attendees at student workshops must be registered to teach in South Australia. Please wear your school badge and use your school email to register.

It is not required that adults attend the student workshop, it is only offered as an option to enrich the content of this workshop.

Your Presenters

Karen Butler

Karen is an educator who has worked in primary schools for many years as a teacher and as a leader. She has worked for the Computer Science Education Research (CSER) team at Adelaide University delivering professional learning associated with the Digital Technologies subject in the Australian curriculum through the CSER MOOC. Karen is currently a Curriculum Manager for the Department of Education writing the Technologies curriculum for South Australia for years R-6. Karen is the recipient of the ACCE Leader of the Year award 2020 and the 2019 Leader of the year for EdTechSA. She is also the current President of the teacher association EdTechSA. She is passionate about bringing digital technologies into the everyday discourse and practice of teachers and students. She wants to demystify what is sometimes seen as specialised knowledge and excite a love of computer science in everyone.

Fiona Clayton

Fiona is the Head of eLearning (R-12) at Torrens Valley Christian School where she has been for the last five years. In that time she has been responsible for the implementation of the new Australian digital technologies curriculum. More recently she has been working with the SACE Board on the implementation of the new Stage 1 and 2 Digital Technologies curriculum. Having come into the teaching profession after an 8 year career in programming, she comes with industry experience which has helped in the classroom to motivate and engage her students.

Kelly Rivett

Kelly is an experienced classroom and specialist teacher currently working at Glenelg Primary School. Her childhood passion for problem-solving and technologies has transferred into her teaching through a focus on supporting students and staff in digital learning and thinking. She was the 2020 EdTechSA Educator of the Year and was awarded the 2018 Department for Education Primary Teacher of the Year for developing students' STEM dispositions and entrepreneurial spirit.
