Teaching children to read like writers and write like readers
Event Information
Description
With consulting author, Matt Glover
During this unique full day conference Matt will be making connections between reading and writing by exploring the habits of mind that foster both reading like a writer and writing like a reader. Matt will elaborate on his highly successful 2017 EChO conference where he shared his valuable insights in to supporting young readers before (and after) they are reading conventionally.
Matt comments “as children move through the elementary grades they should be expected to read like writers. That is, teachers should expect them to learn how to write well by studying what published authors do as they write in compelling ways. People often don’t think about very young children reading like writers. However, it makes perfect sense that they do, since young children are great noticers of all sorts of things in their world. “Engaging young writers, 2009
Conference attendees will explore the BIG picture of teaching reading and writing including:
- promoting an inquiry mindset
- investigating multiple entry points
- supporting children’s intellectual growth and development
- fostering deep learning and intellectual stretch
