Event Details

With consulting author, Matt Glover

During this unique full day conference Matt will be making connections between reading and writing by exploring the habits of mind that foster both reading like a writer and writing like a reader.   Matt will elaborate on his highly successful 2017 EChO conference where he shared his valuable insights in to supporting young readers before (and after) they are reading conventionally.

Matt comments “as children move through the elementary grades they should be expected to read like writers. That is, teachers should expect them to learn how to write well by studying what published authors do as they write in compelling ways. People often don’t think about very young children reading like writers. However, it makes perfect sense that they do, since young children are great noticers of all sorts of things in their world. “Engaging young writers, 2009

Conference attendees will explore the BIG picture of teaching reading and writing including:

  • promoting an inquiry mindset
  • investigating multiple entry points
  • supporting children’s intellectual growth and development
  • fostering deep learning and intellectual stretch

Matt Glover is a full time educational consultant and author from Cincinatti, Ohio. He is the author of Engaging Young Writers, that focusses on increasing energy and motivation for all writers. He is also the author with Mary Alice Berry of the book Projecting Possibilities for Writers: The How, What, and Why of Designing Units of Study/ K-5 incorporating mentor texts. Matt is also the co-author with Katie Wood Ray of Sit Down and Teach Up, a video enhanced e-book that includes video clips of writing conferences with young children. Matt recently published with Kathy Collins the book I Am Reading: Nurturing Young Children’s Meaning Making and Joyful Engagement With Any Book, which focusses on emergent readers.

This conference will inspire all Early Childhood educators who are passionate about motivating children to read like writers and write like readers
