The Surry Hills History and Church Choir
As part of the lead-up to the 2018 Spring into Surry Hills arts program and Surry Hills Festival, the Surry Hills Creative Precinct are offering a range of unique experiences including arts, architecture and design, history and food tasting and experiences.
Curated and guided by expert locals you will meet local creatives, learn about the history and architecture, design studios and galleries, sample some of the best food and dining experiences that Surry Hills is famous for amongst foodies worldwide.
The Choir of St Peter's has for 30 years been providing a high quality of music at weekly choral services. With the long-anticipated purchase and installation of a pipe organ finally completed in July, the once budding choir now proceeds to blossom in its musical offerings.
The programme will feature the raw beauty of Sébastien de Brossard's Stabat Mater, and the intense introspection of Franz Liszt's Via Crucis, a masterpiece from the close of his career, which will explore the vast colour palette of the new organ.
The parish was established in 1880 and has a proud and prominent history within both the local community and in the Archdiocese of Sydney. In more recent years, however, the parish has expanded its network to more far-reaching places such as Madrid and Mt. Hagen in Papua New Guinea, thanks to the generous sponsorship of parish priest Fr Bill Milsted and the fundraising efforts within the parish itself.
