Surrealism In Seddon
Sat. 15 October 2016, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm AEDT
Little Creatures Collective will soon be turning 3. Feeling all grown up we decided that it’s about time we threw a party for all of our family, friends and the art community that have so generously supported us. You have helped us to build and shape the school into the creative hub for children and teens that it is today.
Little Creatures Collective would like to invite you to join us in celebration of our 3rd Birthday. We will be throwing Surrealist Dance Party for ages 3 - 12 years, to bring together our creative community and celebrate in Surrealist style. The event takes place in Seddon on 15th October from 10am – 1pm at the Seddon Uniting Church Hall, Cnr Gamon St & Mackay St, Seddon VIC.
The hall will be fitted with an interactive sound and light installation with a surreal feel for its little guests coming dressed in a surreal fashion.
As a dress up party, guests are invited to get creative and dress to impress in true Surrealist style. A major prize will be awarded to the best dressed in attendance as judged by the kids at Melbourne Minor.
Leash up a lobster, put a suit on backwards and we will see you there!!!
Please register so we know your coming!
Surrealism is a fun way for kids to explore the often impossible and illogical thoughts that they conjure up in their imaginations. Fish might fly given fairy wings, or an apple can grow legs and walk its self to the park! The sort of ideas that send them into a giggly state of hysteria. They wish it would all come true, well now it can!
The world of Surrealism is one that is trying to depict dream-states often without boundaries or logic. Surrealism art works often feature natural forms that are detached, transposed or mutated far from real-life situations. These works feature illogical and unlikely occurrences, elements of surprise, and unexpected juxtapositions which kids just love!
See below for a great link to surrealism for kids which will help to explain the cultural movement with some fun examples: http://kids1.tate.org.uk/blog/what-is-surrealism/
We hope this inspires fresh new creativity at home and we look forward to seeing you all at the party.
