Sumo Robot Hackathon

We are an IEEE sponsored student group that hosts a variety of events for the development of young technical professionals. We typically host an event every month.

Deakin IEEE Student Branch

Deakin University

This Hackathon event will consist of a programming challenge where the goal is to design and implement the high-level control scheme of a custom puck robot that will engage in sumo-style combat against identical robots programmed by opponents. Participants will be collaborating to design and implement the high-level controller of the puck robot shown. This robot is equipped with two sets of tracks actuated by a motor each and a mechanism that lifts or lowers the tracks to allow the robot to drive or slide like a hockey puck.To have a better idea of what the competition will be like you can watch the following video: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfLYNFpquSk" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfLYNFpquSk</a>In this competition the robots will be provided, and they will be partly programmed. you will have to edit the code given to you based on your strategies and preferred approach. Each team can have up to three participants. The teams will compete against each other in a elimination type tournament. The winners of the semi finals will compete for the first and second place and the losers of the semi finals will compete for the third place. The first three places will win gift cards (first: 200AUD, second:100AUD, third: 50AUD)If your team cannot attend the event in person, not to worry, you can still compete. You can send us your code and there will be a zoom link provided so you can watch the competition live. But we encourage you to attend the event in person as it can be a fun day to spend with your friends and fellow student. Also, there will be snacks and lunch for the attendees 🙂This event will be held as a collaboration between the Deakin, Melbourne, and Monash IEEE student branches. The tentative date and location for the event is Sep 12, 2022, at the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (NS Building) in Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus. This event will run for the entire day from 10:00 to 17:00.
