1. Welcome & Introduction (10 min)

• Warm-up, materials overview
• Short demo on Sumi philosophy: simplicity, gesture, breath

2. Brush Control & Sumi Strokes (20 min)

• Practising petals, branches, and expressive lines
• Light, medium, and heavy pressure techniques

3. Cherry Blossom Demonstration (15 min)

• Building blossoms with minimal, intentional marks
• Adding watercolour to create depth and softness

4. Guided Painting: Blossom Composition (45 min)

• Create your own cherry blossom artwork
• Support with composition, flow, and colour choices

5. Finishing Touches & Reflection (20 min)

• Adding shadows, atmospheric washes, and optional ink accents

Do I need experience?
Not at all! This workshop is perfect for beginners and all skill levels.

What do I need to bring?
Nothing — all art materials are included. Just bring yourself.

Where exactly is it held?
We’ll meet at Melbourne Central Skybridge. Full directions will be emailed to you 2 days before the workshop.

Can children join?
This workshop is designed for adults, but older teens are welcome with a guardian.

What if it rains or the weather changes?
We’re indoors at the Skybridge, so the workshop runs rain or shine.

Are refunds available?
Refunds follow Eventbrite’s policy. You’re welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend or contact the organiser to transfer to another workshop, if you can’t attend.

Will I receive anything after the workshop?
Yes — you’ll receive a digital handout for post-workshop practice.

  3. Walk a little further down the corridor.
  4. You’ll see "The Between" Skybridge — a glass bridge linking Melbourne Central to Emporium Melbourne over Lonsdale Street.
