Sultry & Sample – March 14

Sultry & Sample returns on March 14 with a cross-continental lineup that brings together international soul pedigree, rising Australian R&B and the future-facing energy of Western Sydney’s new wave.

Headlining the night is UK soul powerhouse Vula Malinga. Born in the United States to South African parents and raised in Hackney, Vula first rose to prominence as a lead singer of the London Community Gospel Choir before delivering the iconic lead vocal on Basement Jaxx’s Oh My Gosh. Her career has since spanned collaborations with Adele, Sam Smith, Beverley Knight and Kano, alongside work with Quincy Jones and Pete Tong. She holds a monthly residency at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and recently completed a run of shows with Robert Glasper and Common, with Omar joining the final performance.

Joining the bill is Zimbabwean-Australian R&B/Soul vocalist Chelle Tamika. Known for her emotive delivery and commanding stage presence, Chelle first appeared on Young Talent Time before reaching national audiences on The Voice Australia. Since then, she has carved out her own lane, blending unfiltered storytelling with rich harmonic depth. A Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Singer of the Year winner, Chelle continues to build a reputation for powerful live performances across Sydney’s independent scene.

Completing the lineup is Western Sydney-based artist, producer and DJ Sollyy, widely recognised as one of the key figures bridging drill, hip-hop and Australia’s underground club circuit. Working alongside acts including Onefour, 1300 and Pania, Sollyy has built a community-driven audience while earning Producer of the Year in the Acclaim All Stars Class of 2023. A 2024 Generations Fellow at Powerhouse Ultimo, his work reflects a commitment to local collaboration and cultural storytelling.
