Stretch and Learn
Make meaning this morning with a light breakfast, guided stretch session and panel discussion navigating the nuance of disordered eating
Join us as we talk about all things body neutrality, dissect diet culture, and learn how to move our bodies with care and compassion rather than out of obligation.
WHO:
- Rachael Burns (CEO and Founder, Lived Experience eating disorders advocate)
- Lexington Mitchell (Integrity Initiative team member, Occupational Therapist and Lived Experience eating disorders advocate)
- Jasmin Gardner
- Briana Toy
- Brooke Pearson (Owner of Just Move Albany)
This session is open for all members of the public, with priority going to Brooke Pearson's Just Move clients.
WHAT: A body-neutral, informative, shame-free and lived experience-grounded breakfast, gentle movement and mini workshop helping to reframe food, bodies, and wellbeing.
WHEN: Monday 2nd March, 8:00am - 11:00am
WHERE:
YOU CAN EXPECT:
Panel discussion, light breakfast, and mini-workshop delving into eating disorders (EDs), disordered eating, early identification of EDs and how to supporting those experiencing them.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
We live in a world saturated with diet culture, body shame, morality around food, and constant pressure to meet unrealistic standards. With so many mixed messages, it can be hard to recognise what a healthy relationship with food even looks like, especially when disordered patterns are often normalised and celebrated.
This workshop offers a gentle space to unpack the realities of eating disorders, explore the difference between eating disorders and disordered eating, and move beyond the narrow stereotypes that dominate public perception. It will discuss eating disorders beyond stereotypical anorexia, delving into the role of genetics, neurodivergence, temperament, trauma, culture and beyond (and why - by extension - eating disorders have nothing to do with vanity).
Stretch and Learn is not a typical workshop, but one that welcomes folks of all abilities, interests and learning styles. It uses conversation, myth-busting, Lived Experience Expertise, neuro-affirming practice, somatic grounding and kinaesthetic learning to explore how to foster body neutrality, compassion, and shame-free eating.
We will share food in a neutral, celebratory way, modelling what it means to eat without guilt, fear, or rules. This session is suitable for anyone looking to support themselves or others, to challenge diet culture, or to build a more inclusive, weight-neutral approach to health and wellbeing.
