Strawbale Mudbrick PassivHaus: Alternative Building Systems & How They Stac...
Event Information
Description
This free talk in association with Sustainable House Day focuses on three different alternative house systems: Strawbale, Mudbrick / Rammed Earth and PassivHaus. Architect, Richard Teed, will compare and contrast these styles in relation to their thermal efficiency, livability, upfront cost, and ongoing issues of maintenance and scalability.
Although there has been a long history involving alternative building techniques, the need to think more consciously about the types of houses we build and the materials we use has become even more important in the face of issues of climate change and the need for us to adapt to a lower energy use future beyond fossil fuels. Building and choosing homes that are more or less sustainable than others comes with complexities that often require expert advice and explanation. This talk will dig beneath the technicalities and offer a more easily digested brief on alternative building systems and their relative cost-benefit relationships.
