Story Sparks is a series of workshops for aspiring children's book writers who wish to learn about the children's publishing industry and engage with other writers. Bernadette Kelly is an established children's author with over 35 published books within a variety of genres and age groups. Workshops are structured for participants to gain tips and techniques on the writing craft, in addition to having the opportunity to give and receive constructive feedback from Bernadette and each other. Each workshop will feature a new Guest speaker to talk about their areas of expertise, from picture books, middle fiction, editing and publishing to young adult. Story Sparks workshops offer an opportunity to glean valuable insights and tips from a wealth of industry experience.
Bernadette Kelly - facilitator Bernadette has been a children's author for sixteen years. She has over 35 books published both in Australia and internationally within a variety of genres and age groups. Bernadette is a fellow of the May Gibbs Children's Literature Trust and a former council member and Marketing Coordinator for YABBA- Young Australians Best Book Awards.
Glenda Millard -Guest speaker Story Sparks workshop 22nd October 2016 Glenda Millard’s books, published nationally and internationally, include picture books, the much loved and acclaimed Kingdom of Silk series for younger readers, and novels for young adults. ‘A Small Free Kiss in the Dark’ was shortlisted for 6 awards, representing Australia in the International Board on Books for Young people. ‘The Duck and the Darklings’, Glenda’s most recent picturebook is shortlisted for the WA Premier’s Book awards and her latest YA novel,‘The Stars at Oktober Bend’ was published in February.

What can/can't I bring to the event?
Bring notebooks, pens and writing pieces for feedback. You may like to bring a personal water bottle. More detailed information will be emailed to participants prior to the workshops.
