Join us for this jam-packed 20-minute scientific presentation on polluted stormwater, the environmental effects and what we can do about it.

Stormwater Shepherds will be conducting some educational workshops at the City of Ryde&#x27;s <a href="https://www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/Events/Listing/Sustainability-Festival" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">2022 Sustainability Festival</a>. Director of Operations Mary Rayner will take you on a journey to polluted aquatic environments to examine health issues affecting aquatic lifeforms from our polluting habits. Looking at the root cause – untreated stormwater and the types of impervious surfaces that convey polluted stormwater. Stormwater carries all types of pollution - plastic litter, sediment, organic matter, dangerous chemicals and road runoff. Unless captured, all this material makes its way into our natural waterways and eventually our oceans – and the impact can be catastrophic.Many chemicals that find their way into stormwater have endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs). Research has linked these EDCs to reproductive issues and cancers in aquatic lifeforms. Can these health issues be mirrored in humans as well?Discuss solutions for long-term sustainable approaches to successfully controlling stormwater pollution and how we can all participate. With science to back , this jam-packed 20-minute presentation Questions are welcome and plastic-free products will be available to purchase.
