Program Overview

This event has been organised by Postgraduate students from the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology Students Association (ASA), Students of the Institute for Molecular Bioscience Association (SIMBA) and the School of Biomedical Sciences Student Academic and Social Society (SBMS SASS).

The evening will start off with a video interview from Dr Alan Finkel, Chief Scientist of Australia to provide his insights into the ways a PhD has helped him reach his career goals. Then, have your chance to ask the experts about their career journey that started in a STEM PhD program in a Q&A panel discussion, during which we will hear from distinguished guests such as,

  • Dr Christine Williams (Acting Chief Scientist of Queensland, Assistant Director-General of the Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation)

  • Professor Walter Thomas (Previous Head of School of Biomedical Sciences, Acting Director of the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute)

  • Dr Anthony Musumeci (Investment Manager at Uniseed)

  • Dr Alena Rinke (Co-founder of Microba)

  • Dr Simone Vink (Patent Attorney at Davies Collison Cave Australia)

Following the panel discussion, there will be the opportunity to engage with industry representatives in an informal networking session. Invited industry reps include CSIRO, Cook Medical, Vaxxas, Patheon and many more! Finger food and beverages are provided so come along to hear career advice from successful individuals and expand your networking pool!

Photographers will be available to take professional headshots for you to update your LinkedIn, Research Gate or Twitter profile. Tweet us your questions (#STEM_PCE) and we may read them out on the night.
