Statewide - LGBTIQA+ Inclusion in Schools DAY 1
The Safe Schools team are pleased to offer a free two-day intensive on LGBTIQA+ inclusion in schools!
This training will include advice, information and interactive workshops with the aim of increasing your knowledge and confidence in supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer and questioning, and asexual (LGBTIQA+) students. You will leave with a better understanding of the experiences of LGBTIQA+ students as well as practical strategies to create safe and inclusive environments for all students, including LGBTIQA+ students, at your school.
Beginner training will occur on Wednesday 14 October, and Intermediate training will occur on Thursday 15 October. Both days will also give you the opportunity to connect with other school staff across Victoria.
Topics that will be covered on Monday's beginner training include:
- sex, gender and sexuality
- experiences of LGBTIQA+ young people
- responding to discriminatory language
- responding to disclosures
- responding to community
- supporting a student affirming their gender
- strategies to implement in your school.
Topics that will be covered on Tuesday's intermediate training include:
- intersectionality
- multicultural, multifaith
- disability, including neurodiversity
- bystander/upstander
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Q&A panel with schools
Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Let us know with your registration if there’s anything we can do to make this event more accessible for you.
Please arrive 15 minutes early as we will start right on 9:00am. If you are unable to make it on the day please let us know as early as possible, so we're able to reallocate your ticket.
Please note - you can book tickets for both or one day.
However, if attending the intermediate day you do need to have attended the day 1 in a regional area or completed the Safe Schools Foundation 101 training at your school.
