ABOUT SANDY BIGARA

Sandy Bigara is a singer/songwriter from Gosford. Growing up in South Africa, Sandy has composed classically since the age of 6 when she formulated her own music writing method to notate the songs she wrote on a small bell action wooden baby piano. She still plays some of these songs today.

After singing and dancing from the age of 3, Sandy continued to compose once she taught herself to play the guitar at age 14. By age 18 she had composed over 40 pop/contemporary songs on guitar, she won singing competitions and songwriting competitions nationally and in her province. By age 22 she had taught herself to play the piano and had composed almost 60 songs. Sandy then undertook her music grade and practicals, attending Master Classes and singing lessons and by age 24 she had composed over 80 pieces of pop and classical music, for choir and instruments.

Over the next decade, Sandy taught music and drama in public and private schools, and continued to compose and search for her own signature style.

In 2015, Sandy followed her Aussie husband to NSW with their two small daughters, they settled in Gosford and Sandy started to look again for her own sound. She found it.

"I had not seen the stars for a very long time, years in fact. When we moved to our apartment on the Gosford Waterfront I was blown away by the night sky. The song "Speed of Light" which has had fan mail from around the world was inspired by the night sky over West Gosford and Kariong.

I felt strongly connected to my cultural heritage, to my Norwegian and possibly Scandinavian roots. Being a woman who loves Vikings... I was drawn to the ideology behind the Viking mind set - to constantly explore and seek out that which is on the horizon. I have always felt a magical connection to the sky, to the stars. So the name StarViking came about quite organically. The entire StarViking idea and vision came about this way. Slowly and purposefully. It feels right.

I sat down with sound samples from all over the world, and decided to put my classical songwriting knownledge to use. I "composed" classically with the electronic sounds that I had sourced for each song. The song lyrics came from my subconscious like an avalanche. The tunes did too. It was an incredibly emotional process that has taken literally hundreds of hours.

Each song has been painstakingly crafted, reworked again and again until I felt that connection - that it was the sound I wanted. I have purposefully not listened to ANY other similar artists, I've wanted to remain true to the ideas and soundscape that I dreamed of.

Each Experimental Fanstasy song can be classified as Pop / World Music / Jazz / Classical / Spiritual because there are elements of each in every song. The idea is that I am telling a story, the story of the StarVikings. With the hope that these songs will form the music for a Fantasy musical one day.

I wear special outfits made by hand, each outfit has over 1000 crystals and sequins attached to it, I also wear Valkyrie inspired head gear, lit up like the stars.

In my almost 18 months performing the StarVikings music (first from the Deity Album and now the Divine Album) I have never had a negative response. Only inspiration and encouragement.

I hope that people will join me on my journey and enter the mind of the StarViking."

People are encouraged to dress creatively, the wearing of crowns, lights and all things that glitter is highly recommended.
