About this event

The SPPIKE professional learning program activates the vision and principles of the Marrung Education Plan 2016 – 2026. The program supports Victorian education leaders to develop and embrace Aboriginal cultural understandings and strengthen their capability to implement systematic workforce cultural change at a school, local and system level. The program specifically equips principals to lead strengthening in teacher capability and responsiveness to support improved Koorie student outcomes.

Workshops begin promptly at 8:30am each day.

The Koorie Outcomes Division, DET, is offering principals and leaders (including leadership teams) an opportunity to participate this unique and inspiring program with national leaders in Koorie Education.

This professional learning program will equip school leaders with the skills to:

  • Have challenging conversations
  • Actively engage the school community and promote positive cultural identity and excellence in schools

School leaders will be supported to develop the tools to:

  • Enhance their leadership capacity
  • Challenge their assumptions
  • Contribute to the critical mass of leaders creating positive climate for change in education.

Program participants will develop knowledge in:

  • Aboriginal Cultural understandings
  • How to strengthen capability to implement systematic workforce cultural change at a school, local and systematic level.

SPPIKE aligns to Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026 (Marrung), and includes:

  • Positive climate for learning and development, community engagement in learning and development
  • A culture of professional leadership

SPPIKE also aligns to FISO through the three areas of:

  • Professional leadership
  • Positive climate for learning
  • Community engagement in learning

Format: SPPIKE will be delivered through two face-to-face residential workshops

Duration: Five days out of school (3 days + 2 days) with a school-based project to be completed during the 6-8 weeks between workshops.

Audience: Principals and members of leadership teams

Cost: Fully subsidised workshop, meals and accommodation (travel to the venue is not covered)
