We are pleased to host three environmental events at Googong on Saturday 23 September 2023, as follows:1. SPECIES IN THE SUBURB COMMUNITY DAY Icon Water’s community support program has partnered with Molonglo Conservation Group, to support awareness of  important local species. We would like to invite members and families of the Googong, Queanbeyan and ACT community to our ‘Species in the Suburb Community Day’ event. Join us at Aprasia Park in Googong on Saturday 23rd of September from 10:00am ‘til 11:30am. You will have the opportunity to hear about the ‘Saving our Species’ Pink-Tailed Worm Lizard project in Googong, get hands-on with a waterbug display from Waterwatch to learn about critters from our local waterways, experience an interactive, educational reptile display with ACT Snake Removals and see the unveiling of a Pink-Tailed Worm Lizard sculpture in the park.WHAT: Species in the Suburb Community Day WHEN: 10am-11:30am Saturday 23/9/23 WHERE: Aprasia Park, Aprasia Avenue GoogongBookings essential as places are limited tickets available through this event page2. GOOGONG DAM TOURFollowing on from this event at 11:45am you have the opportunity to join Icon Water for a unique walking tour opportunity over our largest dam in our drinking water network. On this tour you’ll learn about the dam itself, its engineering build and history, the Googong Catchment and ACT water network journey. Learn how the community can help protect our water quality and the types of activities to enjoy on the Googong foreshore. We will also teach you about the processes at our water treatment plant, including how we supply water to the ACT, Queanbeyan and Googong township. PINK TAILED WORK LIZARD CONSERVATION TOUR We have invited Rob Spiers from Capital Ecology to provide participants with a rare insight to this local endangered species, the Pink Tailed Worm Lizard. Participants have an opportunity to learn more about this species and it's habitat and the potential of seeing one firsthand. This will take participants through a 45 minute Reserve walk at the end of Gorman Drive Googong starting at 11:45am. This tour is suitable for participants 10 years and up. Family groups and individuals are welcome. All participants under 16 years must be fully supervised by an accompanying adult. Participants require an adequate level of fitness to navigate uneven terrain.
