Event description
Join Professors Nick Doumanis and George Kouvaros in this illustrated lecture discussing Greek life in the 50s in Sydney.

About this event

In the 1950s, a new wave of Greeks and Greek Cypriots began arriving in Sydney Harbour and Kingsford Smith Airport, joining an established Greek community centred mainly in Paddington and Redfern. Drawing on exciting new material from the Greek Australian archive project, Professors Nick Doumanis and George Kouvaros will present a lecture discussing Greek life in places like Newtown and other central parts of Sydney. The lecture will depict life in the new neighbourhoods, with film and photographs to illustrate how Greeks remade their lives in the 1950s.

Presented in partnership with the Greek Festival of Sydney.

Presented as part of Heritage Festival 2021
