Jim Haynes OAM is one of Australia's most prolific and successful author/ historians. Before becoming a professional entertainer, song writer and verse writer in 1988, Jim taught writing, literature, history and drama in schools and universities from outback New South Wales to Britain and back again. In 2016, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for 'services to the performing arts as an entertainer, author, broadcaster and historian'.
He has worked on ABC Radio and Sydney commercial radio for over 30 years. Jim is now on 2GB Weekends (The Great Australian Radio Show) with Luke Grant and with Michael McLaren on Afternoons (Sydneysiders) on Thursday.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Jim Haynes OAM is one of Australia's most prolific and successful author/ historians. Before becoming a professional entertainer, song writer and verse writer in 1988, Jim taught writing, literature, history and drama in schools and universities from outback New South Wales to Britain and back again. In 2016, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for 'services to the performing arts as an entertainer, author, broadcaster and historian'.
Educated at Sydney Boys High School and Sydney Teachers’ College, he taught for six years at Menindee, on the Darling River, and later at high schools in northern New South Wales and in London. Jim has also worked as a nurse, cleaner and sapphire salesman and was a professional entertainer and recording artist for 25 years. He has two degrees in literature from the University of New England and a master’s degree from the University of Wales in the UK. He has written and compiled 34 books and released many albums of songs, verse and humour.
He has worked on ABC Radio and Sydney commercial radio for over 30 years. Jim is now on 2GB Weekends (The Great Australian Radio Show) with Luke Grant and with Michael McLaren on Afternoons (Sydneysiders) on Thursday.
