Southwark Grounds Code Amendment – Community Drop-in Information Session
We invite you to join us for a community drop-in information session about the Southwark Grounds Code Amendment.
The draft Southwark Grounds Code Amendment is now open for public consultation.
Prepared the Department for Housing and Urban Development (DHUD), it proposes raising maximum and minimum building heights across Southwark Grounds to maximise its potential as a thriving new residential and mixed-use community close to the city.
Situated on the former West End Brewery site, Southwark Grounds is a landmark $1billion development being managed by the State Government via Renewal SA.
Up to 1,300 new homes, designed to suit a range of demographics, are planned for the site with at least 20% designated as affordable housing. Alongside retail, commercial, hospitality and community opportunities, the development will also upgrade the Karrawirra Parri/River Torrens Linear Park to deliver a shared use path along the river, including a link under Port Road.
The development will also revitalise key heritage assets including the Walkerville Brew Tower, the ‘Thebarton Cottage’ foundations and the Riverside Gardens as part of a masterplan targeting 30% tree canopy coverage and a 6 Star Green Star Community Rating.
You can read more about the code amendment, and provide your feedback via the YourSAy webpage.
Public consultation is open until 11:59pm Friday 20 February 2026.
Why attend?
This community drop-in information session will provide an opportunity to meet members of the Department for Housing and Urban Development’s code amendment team, learn more about the proposed code amendment, and ask any questions.
Community members who have registered via Eventbrite are welcome to drop in at any time during the session. This is not a formal presentation, but an opportunity to speak face-to-face with the DHUD team about the code amendment.
During the session our team can:
- explain the rationale for the code amendment
- highlight areas of interest
- answer any questions you might have
- explain how to provide feedback
