Somatic symptoms in children and adolescents

The team at the Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW) uses The Stress System Model for understanding and treating functional somatic symptoms. This workshop aims to share our theoretical framework and its application to clinical practice with other clinicians with an updated theoretical framework. An overview of the key body systems involved in human responses to stress will be provided. Commonly occurring somatic symptoms and typical presentations will be discussed via brief vignettes. Treatment options will be discussed.
