SmartSat CRC Canberra Workshop

A bid for a new $200 million applied research centre in Space Technologies (Communications, Satellite Systems, Earth Observations) has been submitted to the Federal Government under the Cooperative Research Centre program.

The SmartSat CRC will build the largest network concentration in space research and innovation capability in Australia through collaboration, catapulting the nation in the global space industry, and playing a leading role in niche areas of intelligent satellite systems, advanced communications and analytics.

This CRC will be a key contributor to Australia’s Space Strategy, leading Australia’s space industry and contributing to develop Australia’s sovereign capability in space. The SmartSat CRC’s research will result in game-changing technologies that impact Australian society and economy: spawning new businesses and underpinning the next wave of growth in critical industries including agriculture, natural resources, defence, transport, logistics and mining and creating export economic value, generating new high-tech jobs whilst strengthening national defence and security. The bid already has over 60 partners contributing over $46 million in cash, and $120 million in in-kind contributions.

The workshop will focus on better understanding the needs of Australian users, especially around connectivity and Earth Observation information, as well as to jointly identify the key impact areas of national importance for the SmartSat CRC.
