Vitalstatistixis a South Australian contemporary arts organisation with a focus on the development of multidisciplinary artworks, which experiment with ideas, forms and engagement.We provide a site for big ideas and intimate experiences, for long-term development and hothouse intensity, for contemporary art and community life.Each year Vitals offers a program of performance, residencies, projects, events, exhibitions, festival experiences, collaborations with like-minded makers and presenters, and initiatives for South Australian artists. Vitals is a feminist organisation and has a proud and continuing tradition of supporting women artists.Seeing the creative process of artists, and participating in experimentation and social investigation, is the hallmark of Vitalstatistix. Our heritage-listed home the Waterside Workers Hall and location in Port Adelaide is sublimely suited to this endeavour, and it is a unique offer that the organisation makes to both artists and audiences of art.Vitalstatistix aims to be a vibrant home on the Port River for Australian artists who are experimenting with and changing the world.

Gabrielle Nankivell’s <a href="https://vitalstatistix.com.au/residencies/sightings-2/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sightings</a> explores personal and collective mythologies of place through crowd-sourced mapping and storytelling, choreographed site interventions, video works, documentation and public performance.

Drawing on Gabrielle’s Arts South Australia Fellowship, which is exploring choreographic strategies for documenting personal and artistic lineage/ancestry, Sightings extends this line of enquiry to specific communities.

First trialled as a community workshop in Port Pirie in 2019 with Country Arts SA, Sightings will develop as a site-specific performance making model, with substantial potential for regional and other touring.

This residency will explore conceptual material from ideas around discovery, colonialism and unreliable narratives of place, through to acts of public sightings, new archival practices and public choreography. Vitalstatistix’s home Port Adelaide is a rich location for the creative development of this work.Join us for a work-in-progress showing, following a two week development at Vitalstatistix.Some key information for you to know in advance:- The bar is strictly non-cash/card only. - Keeping in line with new regulations we will have a trained Covid Monitor at the event.Please note that all people entering Waterside will be expected to register their contact details prior to entry and numbers will be limited by social distancing requirements. Vitalstatistix has a COVID-19 Safe Plan in place.
