Shoulder Physio Workshop Gold Coast
Event Information
About this event
In short, the landscape of shoulder pain and dysfunction has undergone a revolution over the past 5-10 years. Gone is the dominant mode of thought that surgery, injection therapy and routine imaging is best practice. What's emerged in its place is a greater appreciation of a holistic and person-centred approach to shoulder pain. This is where the evidence is, yet, sadly, the dominant cultural paradigm approach to shoulder pain frequently does not reflect this evidence.
The aim of this one-day workshop is to bring you modern information and strategies pertaining to best practice management of shoulder pain. Non-surgical management of shoulder pain is the principal rehabilitation method. It's on you to ensure you are delivering the best possible advice and intervention available. At the end of this workshop you will know precisely how to do this.
Content framework:
- Background of shoulder pain; epidemiology, risk factors, predictors of outcomes, a deep dive into the rotator cuff tear.
- The painful shoulder - is there a structural or movement based problem we should be aware of, or is it all in the head?
- The patient interview and physical examination. Tips on how to optimise your assessment to elicit the information you need to design a thorough treatment regimen.
- Understand the lived experience of people who've had or still have shoulder pain. This section will feature 2 real-life patients giving you their experience.
- Treatment! What can I do? Where does the evidence point us? Hands on/off? Resistance exercise or motor control? What dose of exercise? How long do we give it? Is there a role for surgery and injections? Pain education? Cognitive functional therapy? How do we decide what is the best plan for a particular individual?
- Practical session: exercise time!
- Bonus: all attendees will receive my stiff and unstable shoulder course for FREE. This delves into shoulder instability and frozen shoulder. Valued at $249.
**FYI if COVID interferes with the event you will receive a full refund.
